    5 Things You Should Never Put on Your Face: A Dermatologist’s Warning

Dr. Anthony, America’s holistic plastic surgeon, shares his top five things you should never put on your face. You might be surprised by what makes the list!

    1. Bar Soap

    Why It’s Bad: Bar soap is often too harsh for the delicate skin on your face. It can strip away natural oils, leaving your skin dry and irritated. Many bar soaps also contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), a foaming agent that can cause dryness and sensitivity.

    What to Use Instead: Opt for a gentle, pH-balanced facial cleanser designed specifically for your skin type. Look for ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or ceramides to keep your skin hydrated.

    2. Petroleum Jelly

    Why It’s Bad: While petroleum jelly is often touted as a moisturizing miracle, it’s derived from petroleum—a byproduct of oil refining. It creates an occlusive barrier on the skin, which can trap dirt and bacteria, leading to clogged pores and breakouts.

    What to Use Instead: Choose natural alternatives like beeswax-based balms or plant-based oils (e.g., jojoba or argan oil) that nourish the skin without clogging pores.

    3. Body Moisturizer

    Why It’s Bad: Body moisturizers are formulated for thicker skin and often contain heavier ingredients that can clog facial pores, leading to acne and irritation.

    What to Use Instead: Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic facial moisturizer. Look for products with antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, or niacinamide to hydrate and protect your skin.

    4. Rubbing Alcohol or Alcohol-Based Toners

    Why It’s Bad: Alcohol-based products may give your skin a “squeaky clean” feeling, but they strip away natural oils, disrupting your skin’s moisture barrier. This can lead to increased oil production and a vicious cycle of dryness and breakouts.

    5. Sperm Facials

    Why It’s Bad: Yes, you read that right. Sperm facials have gained popularity due to claims that semen contains antioxidants and proteins. However, there’s no scientific evidence to support these benefits. Worse, semen can carry sexually transmitted infections (STIs), posing serious health risks.

    What to Use Instead: Stick to proven skincare ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, or peptides for antioxidant and anti-aging benefits.
